LTG Kicks Off Its Blog!

backpack driveIf you haven’t notice Living Through Giving is pretty quiet for the first part of the year. That is because come May we are full throttle all the way through the month of December. May brings our backpack drive. Last year we collected 900 backpacks for kids in the care of the Department of Family and Protective Services. We are hoping to beat that record this year. The We Got Your Back drive ends on July 31 and we will be distributing the backpacks at the beginning of August. Last year I had the pleasure of seeing how happy a new backpack could make a kid. It is so simple, something that most adults don’t even think about. But those kids walking into school on the first day with Ninja Turtle and Spiderman back packs feel a sense of pride and confidence. Did you know that a simple donation of $10.00 will purchase one backpack? Most of us spend $10.00 a day on lunch, so pack your lunch one day and help send a kid to school with confidence. You can also check out our booth at the 10 Annual Summer Celebration at North Central Baptist Hospital. This year it lands on August 1st!
Puffer-Backpacks Once We Got Your Back wraps Living Through Giving with be all Winter Celebration All the time. Winter Celebration is the largest annual toy drive in San Antonio. It kicks off with a month long Scavenger Hunt that ends on Saturday, Dec. 5th at 10:00 am. With 60,000 pounds of snow, FREE photos with Santa, vendors from all over San Antonio and so much more Winter Celebration has become a family tradition over the past 15 years. This year will be the second year that Winter Celebration is a 100% nonprofit event. All proceed from Winter Celebration go to making sure that the kids that have been displace by violence, neglect, drug abuse and an array of other factors have a least one gift under the tree on Christmas morning. We are so proud to co-host this event with North Central Baptist Hospital and Welcome Home Community Newspaper. Without both of these companies support Winter Celebration would not be possible. Welcome Home is Living Through Giving’s sister company. A 16 year old community newspaper that handed the reigns of their annual event of to the non-profit in 2013, and North Central Baptist Hospital is an integral part of the dynamic of the event.
